history of Café Coach

The concept of Café Coach was launched by Heather De Cruz-Cornaire and Maria Lincoln in North London in 2007. Whilst Café Coach has evolved in a different direction to how it was originally planned, and Maria is no longer directly involved, Café Coach would not exist without Maria’s insights and contributions. Recognition is important – thank you to both Maria and Leanne Kennedy for your inspiration and support to get this venture off the ground!

Nowadays Café Culture is becoming more and more popular in UK cities. When Café Coach was launched a typical venue would offer small seating areas with books/newspapers for customers to browse. Writers may even have penned their bestsellers whilst in a café:

This is what J.K.Rowling had to say when she was interviewed for the Roald Dahl Museum in 2005: “I write absolutely everywhere, I can – I really can write anywhere: I’ve written on the loo … I’ve written on aeroplanes, on trains …. I’m best known for writing in cafes, I suppose – I still do that a lot – so … give me a biro and a pad and I’m happy!

The trend for cafes continues to offer the opportunity to both work and relax, offering online access and zoned areas for parents and children. Cafés are for everyone and there’s still that buzz and vibe when you find that ‘gem’ whether it’s for business or pleasure or just to connect to the web. My favourite cafes are still located in North London and now I keep the best ones a secret !
